ABOUT ME
Hard to spell.
Harder to hide.
I'd prefer to be anonymous. But with a name like Giles Cruickshanks, that was never really an option. So if you're searching for me, here's what you'll find.
Consider this the guided tour, with fewer tabs.

Giles Cruickshanks
Founder of iSchedule.MD
Former anesthesiologist. Still curious.
Medicine, code
and people.
I moved from England when I was two and grew up in Sarnia. I started with computer science, moved into medicine, and eventually found a way to put the two together. I practised anesthesiology at Southlake Regional Health Centre for 16 years.
In 2003, I began building scheduling software for my own hospital. The aim was simple: make scheduling easier and give colleagues more choice in their daily work. That became iSchedule.MD. I commercialized it in 2012 and continue to develop it as Founder and CEO.
In 2013, I took a six-month leave of absence to work at North York General Hospital (NYGH), implementing the first iSchedule.MD mobile picklist.
I like turning complicated real-world workflows into something simpler and fairer. Hospital scheduling provides a fairly reliable supply of complicated workflows.
For those who enjoy the footnotes
In 2012, I co-developed TimeToOR with a nursing colleague to improve emergency operating-room booking. It placed fourth out of 68 projects at Hacking Health Toronto.
There is also a 1999 anesthesia case report with my name on it, published in the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia.

Apparently, I'm
still a student.
In 2013, I went to HackerYou, where I learned Ruby on Rails, HTML and CSS. I loved it. There is still a project showcase and interview online from that chapter.
I've returned to university to study psychology at York, with a BA expected in 2027. After studying computers and then medicine, human behaviour seemed a reasonable next puzzle.

My idea
of a break.
I love tennis and play at Mayfair. I hold a Tennis Canada Instructor certificate, although I don't work as a coach.
They say those who can't do, coach. I got the certificate just in case.
I've hiked Kilimanjaro, the Tour du Mont Blanc, the Annapurna Circuit, and Hadrian's Wall in England. I've also run a marathon and taken on a Spartan Race.
Apparently my idea of a break comes with elevation gain.
Technology
gets personal.
I've lived with type 1 diabetes since 2001. I use the Loop app with a Dexcom G7 and Omnipod DASH pods. For me, it's been amazing.
My HbA1c is in the normal range, and I won't apologize for it.
These days, I'm also obsessed with AI, OpenAI and Codex.
Apparently one software rabbit hole wasn't enough.
A few more
Cruickshanks.
My wife Sonia, our sons Nick and Max, and our dog Mr. Buttons are a big part of my life. They also have their own corners of the internet, should you wish to continue the family search.
